Mental retardation refers to children who are often missed by clinicians. The population part of 2 to 3% present in this condition. It can vary according to the individuals, in some of them it finds an associated or as a part of a syndrome or as a broader disorder. Genetic and environmental factors are the main cause of this.
Other problems that are also analogous to mental retardation are Seizure disorder, Hypothyroidism, Microcephaly, Inability to see correctly, Unable to listen properly, Anxiety, Mood disorders, etc.
Symptoms:
• No intellectual development
• No physical development such as, sitting, crawling, walking, talking, etc.
• Unable to understand social behaviour.
• Find difficulty to solve the problem.
• Lack of curiosity.
• Trouble in remembering things.
• Unable to meet educational demands.
Causes of mental retardation:
• Deficiency of iodine and folic acid.
• Regular use of alcohol, nicotine, and cocaine.
• Under exposure to harmful chemicals such as pollutants, warfarin sodium, heavy metals, etc.
• Radiation exposure.
• Brain malformation.
• Pregnancy complications.
• Have diabetes, heart, and kidney disease.
It is mainly divided into three categories: mild MR, moderate MR, and severe MR.
Treatment
In modern science, there is no standard medication available for it often patients are made to go to mental asylums which makes it worse.
Special education and behavioural therapies can help a person to live fully. Neurotherapy helps to activate the exocrine and endocrine glands of the body and enhance body activity. It aimed to treat each nervous system of the body to heal the person.
